A 21-year-old drug peddler, Femi Oyelami, on Thursday was sentenced to 10 months imprisonment by a Federal High Court in Ibadan for trafficking in 1.1 kg of Indian Hemp also known as Cannabis Sativa.
The convict, a barber and father of one is facing a one-count charge bordering on unlawful dealing in India Hemp.
Mr. Raphael Himinkaiye, counsel to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) told the court that Oyelani committed the crime on Jan. 23, at the Total filling station at Ojoo in Ibadan.
He said the convict when apprehended by operatives of the NDLEA was found in possession of a bag containing 1.1 kg of the illicit drug.
The President of the court, Justice Nathaniel Ayo-Emmanuel sentenced the 21-year-old drug peddler, to 10 months imprisonment based on evidence and the fact that he pleaded guilty to the offence.
The offence is contrary to and punishable under Section 11(C) of the NDLEA Act, Cap. N30, Laws of the Federation, 2004.
