25-Year-Old Convicted For Raping Minor

A 25-year-old man Isiaku Rabiu, has been sentenced to two years imprisonmt by a Jos Upper Area Court sitting in Kasuan Nama for raping a 6-year-old girl.

The convict, a bussinessman pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of rape but begged the court to tamper justice with mercy.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the accused committed the crime on the 5th of March, in his resident at Sabon line in Farin-Gada, and that he lured the minor who was a resident of the same area into his room and had carnal knowledge of her just after she returned home from school.

The matter was reported to State’s Criminal Investigative Department on the same day.

The  prosecutor further disclosed that during medical investigation, some bruises were seen on the private part of the victim.

The president of the court, Mr. Yahaya Mohammed refused the convict  an option of fine but instead sentenced him to two years in prison saying that the punishment will serve as a deterrent to others who may think of committing such atrocity.

The offence contravened section 285 of the Penal code.
