A female student of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijebu-Ode, Kofoworola Kuku, was on Wednesday crushed to death by a truck.
The deceased, a 300-Level Human Kinetics student was knocked down on her way to school along the Sagamu-Benin expressway.
The incident ignited serious protests by her fellow students, as they blocked the roads disrupting vehicular movement until security operatives intervened.
Clement Oladele, Sector-Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Ogun, confirmed the incident saying the death of the victim was as a result of impatience and wrongful crossing of the expressway by the motorcyclist carrying her.
He said the motorcyclist escaped the incident unharmed although the victim was knocked down by the speeding truck and died on the spot.
He also disclosed that the victim was a daughter of a retired FRSC staff.
“It’s a very sad occurrence because the victim was the daughter of a retiree of the FRSC.
“She was the last child of an FRSC Marshal, Shakiru Kuku, who retired two years ago,” He said.
He further disclosed that the body of the victim have been evacuated from the scene and deposited at a morgue in Ijebu-Ode.
Nuraen Bakenne, the university’s spokesperson told Newsmen that the management of TASUED was saddened by the untimely death of Kuku.
He said, “The TASUED management sympathises with the family, relations and friends of the student.
“The information reaching us is that the driver and truck had been apprehended by the police and was being held at the Igbeda Police Command in Ijebu-Ode.”
