We expected this and more like it to come up from the entertainment industry when ‘George Weah’ won the Liberian presidential election and emerge the 25th Liberian president. Following that successful stunt by the retired football superstar ‘George’, Surge published what a motivation it will be for entertainers who would like to seek relevance in politics.
‘Yul Edochie’ had also contested for Anambra state election during the November 2017 gubernatorial election, an exercise that fetched almost ‘nothing’.
Now, another Nollywood figure, ‘Kenneth Okonkwo’, a lawyer and a TV personality has just declared his intentions to run for Enugu State gubernatorial elections under the All Progressive Party (APC). Fans have stated their unreserved support for the actor. But, a few more fans didn’t give support on the bases that being a governor of a state on the real is far different from being a governor of a state in a movie.
Here, they’re talking about experience in leadership, experience in politics and lots more.
One thing is sure, Kenneth Okonkwo is a Nigerian and as such will be allowed to contest hence there’s no constitutional violation of any sort on his path.
But…do you see him winning the governorship election come 2019? What should Nigerians and the world at large know about this?
See Kenneth Okonkwo’s statement on social media:
”Just declared my intention to contest for the Governorship candidate of APC in Enugu State. It was heart warming to receive the blessings of the immediate past Governor of Enugu State,His Excellency, Gov Sullivan Chime. To God be the glory”
