Argentina football legend, Diego Maradona says while he will always prefer compatriot, Lionel Messi, he does wish his Portuguese rival, Cristiano Ronaldo was indeed from Argentina.
The 1986 FIFA World Cup hero says Messi’s ability to breeze past opponents with ease means he’ll always prefer the Barcelona star, but he’d love to see players the ilk of Ronaldo play alongside Messi for the Albiceleste.
“Cristiano is an animal,” Maradona said, according to reports. “[But] I wish he was Argentine. But I still prefer Messi, he is enjoying playing football and goes by opponents with ease,” he added.
On Messi winning the World Cup, the former Napoli star says the 30-year-old cannot do it alone.
“Leo cannot deliver the world cup on his own,” said the 56-year-old.
“Even if he does not win a world cup, we will still remember him,” he added.
