La Liga giants, FC Barcelona have reached an agreement with Benfica for the transfer of defender, Nelson Semedo.

In a statement released on their official website, Barca confirmed that the agreement with Benfica is subject to Semedo passing pre-signing medical tests at the club.

“FC Barcelona and Benfica have reached an agreement for the transfer of Nelson Semedo, pending medical tests on Friday {today] in Barcelona,” the statement read.

The right-back, who was instrumental to Benfica’s treble-winning campaign, will sign a five-year contract with the Catalans, following agreement with Benfica for an initial fee of €30m for the Portuguese international.

Barcelona turned their attention to Semedo after failing to convince Premier League side, Arsenal, to part with their Spanish righ-back, Hector Bellerin, a graduate of the club’s famous La Masia.

The 23-year-old was linked with a move to Manchester United, but is set to put pen to paper at Barcelona, becoming the third signing by new manager, Ernesto Valverde, after the arrivals of Marlon and Gerard Deulofeu.

Semedo played 63 matches in two seasons for Benfica, and was part of the Portuguese side that came third at the just concluded 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia.

In a related development, right-back, Nelson Semedo, has arrived the Catalan capital for a medical ahead of his much anticipated move to Barca from Benfica.
