Leader of the National Super Alliance (NASA) Raila Odinga finally declared himself as People’s President of Kenya on Tuesday January 30, 2018.
We gathered that Odinga allegedly took a symbolic unofficial oath before his fans with the Holy Bible, saying: “I, Raila Omolo Odinga, do swear that I will protect the nation as People’s President, so help me God.”
After taking the oath, Odinga in his speech said; “Today is a historic day for the people of Kenya, the people have gathered here in the hundreds of thousands to say enough is enough with the electoral rigging.
Today’s step is one step towards the doing away with electoral autocracy and to establishing proper democracy in our country.”
Recall that after nullifying the first election conducted, due to Odinga’s protest on irregularities, the Supreme Court charged the country’s electoral commission to conduct a re-run election. Prior to the scheduled date, Odinga announced his withdrawal and finally boycotted the election, complaining that irregularities would still arise, that Government was planning to rig the vote.
The re-run was successfully conducted and Uhuru Kenyatta of The National Allaince (TNA) was declared winner for the second time. He was sworn-in in November 2017, but Odinga proceeded with protests that had reportedly caused many lives in the country.
Odinga argued that he is the rightful leader of the people.
No reaction yet from the incumbent President at the time of reporting this news.
