Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar is set to undergo a foot surgery as regards the injury (fractured foot) he sustained in the Sunday’s game against Marseille. His departure is not really a pleasant idea but a choice forced down the throat of the coach cum the general team vis-à-vis the situation of his health status.
Though the wound looked rather innocuous, he sustained a sprained ankle and fractured metatarsals during the incident that left him in tears before leaving the pitch on a stretcher.
The injury as revealed on Wednesday by the club cannot be overlooked as it requires an operation, leaving the club with little or no choice than to send the Brazilian for surgery.
“We made a meeting with Brazil’s doctor, our doctor, the family, the player,” he added. “Everyone agreed with the decision to operate on Neymar.
“But it is the best decision for him, for the club, for the national team of Brazil. We do not have a choice.
“We do not have a choice but to send Neymar for surgery on his fractured foot, but we are hoping to see him make a swift recovery.” Said the Club president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi.
Coach Unai Emery was initially hopeful he could feature in the Champions League last-16 second leg against Real Madrid since it will be a big match and will require the skills of the injured star, but that is obviously not possible anymore as he would be gone for his surgery by then.
Despite reports claiming Neymar could be out for two months, Al-Khelaifi is hopeful of him returning just in time for the Champions League quarter-finals scheduled for the first week of April, should PSG get past Real Madrid in March.
“It’s the game of the season, as we want to qualify for the quarter-finals. We will qualify. We have the team and the players who are able to do it. We will work together.”
“We will do it together, with the players and the fans. The match against Real Madrid is very important.
“It was a difficult decision. We could not take the risk of delaying the operation. We do not want to waste time, so we hope he will be ready for the quarter-finals of the Champions League.” Said Al-Khelaifi.
