Court Remands Trader Over Alleged Theft Of Handset And N115,000

A 25-year-old trader, Suleiman Mohammed on Friday was remanded in prison by a Sokoto Chief Magistrate’s Court for alleged theft of Handsets and N115,000 cash.

The accused is facing a two-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy and theft to which he pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Cpl. Umar Rabiu told the court that the offences were committed on Feb 2, 2018 at Tsamiyar Dila, Sokoto.

Rabiu explained to the court that the accused unlawfully gained entrance into the residence of one Umar Mohammed and stole a Tecno handset and two Samsung handsets worth N100,000 and he also made away with N115,000 cash.

The Presiding Magistrate, Abubakar Adamu, ordered the remand of the accused in prison following the request of the prosecutor asking to allow the police conclude investigation into the matter.

The Judge adjourned the case till March 19, for hearing.

The offence contravened section 288 of the penal code.
