12 suspected kidnappers have been arrested by the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC), Sokoto state command.
The suspects who operate and posed serious threat to four local government areas of Sokoto state were reportedly arrested by the NSCDC yesterday 26th June, 2018, although three of the gang members were previously arrested on Friday 22nd June, 2018.
The Commandant of the agency, Mr. Babangida Dutsima, while speaking to newsmen narrated the course of action which brought about the arrest of the suspects.
He narrated that the gang had written to six target wealthy families who lived in Gidan Walo village in Tureta Local Government Area, demanding that the families pay a sum of N12million as they threatened to kidnap the head of the families if they fail to pay the money.
Dutsima said before the matter got to the officials of the NSCDC the frightened families had already paid the sum of N2million to the contact person of the kidnappers.
He also disclosed items recovered from the kidnappers which include seven locally made guns, charms and various other weapons.
He further disclosed that all the suspects had confessed to the crime and various other crimes they had committed in other communities in Isa, Sabon-birni, Tureta, Raba local government areas and in Neighbouring towns in Zamfara state.
Dutsima added that the suspects would be taken to court as soon as investigation is concluded.
