Crime: Woman remanded In Prison Over Child Theft

One Theresa Ogbonna, has been remanded back in prison by a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja on Thursday for allegedly stealing an eight months old baby.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the offence of child theft.

The Prosecutor, Zannah Dalhatu, told the court that a case of a missing baby was reported at the Life Camp Police Station, Abuja, by one Godstime David, who resides in Akwa Ibom on March 2, 2018.

Dalhatu said that the complainant alleged that in January 2017, his lover told him that she was pregnant, but he asked her to abort the baby which she refused and relocated to Abuja.

The lover stayed with the Accused until she bore her baby after which the accused seized the baby and moved to an unknown destination.

Dalhatu said that the baby was recovered from the accused during police investigation.

The president of the court, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, adjourned the case till May 3 for hearing

The offence contravened Section 288 of the Penal Code.
