Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has on Thursday 19 2017 said that the State Government had issued N835, 700, 000 to 593 cooperative societies in the state. The Governor said this in Asaba during the presentation of the 2018 budget proposal to the State House of Assembly.

He stated that the 593 cooperative societies in the 25 local government areas of Delta state benefited up to 6,252 people. Governor Okowa went further to explain that the businesses that will benefit from the program include trading, agri-businesses and manufacturing with market women, artisans and small farm operators, and many more.

He also said a total of 2,324 unemployed youths in the state, including 51 persons with disabilities had already been trained and established in different businesses as they were made to choose what they have passion for, instead of forcing them into what they would not love to do.

“Another 4000 youths were trained in vocational centres across the state under the State Employment and Expenditure for Result (SEEFOR) project of the World Bank and European Union (EU) intervention programme,” he stated.

The governor declared that the state government contributed N600 million as counterpart fund to the project. He also stated that 5,312 youths in the state were employed and trained on building self-esteem respectively. He said that they have been thought everything that they need to know that will help them save and sustain their entrepreneurship. He also said all this programs created in the state is geared towards improving livelihood of it citizens.

The governor said that different Ministries, Departments and Angencies in the state created more than 42,000 jobs through different programs and projects in the state. He stated that many people have benefited form the jobs created already.
