A 32-year-old building engineer, Afolabi Saanu has been hauled before an Ikeja Magistrates’ court in Lagos for allegedly stealing a gate valued at N200,000.
The accused faces a one-count charge bordering on stealing to which he pleaded not guilty.
The presiding magistrate, Mr. A.A Fashola, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He however, adjourned the case to May 30 for mention.
The police prosecutor, Sgt. Mike Unah, had earlier told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 1, 2018 at Unity Street Alakuko, a Lagos suburb.
The prosecutor alleged that the accused, who is a site engineer, stole a gate valued N200,000, belonging to Total Quality Engineering Company Lagos.
He told the court that the accused was apprehended by the company’s security guards who later handed him over to the police.
He told the court that the company security guards said that they saw the accused selling the gate to a wheelbarrow pusher.
According to the prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
