Antonio Conte was presented with a Manchester United shirt bearing his name that appeared to have been signed by Jose Mourinho as his press conference descended into farce at Cobham.
An Italian reporter stood up during the Chelsea manager’s press conference ahead of the FA Cup fifth round tie with Hull City, showing Conte a video on a tablet before handing him a United shirt with “Antonio Conte 1” on its back and a signature on its front.
The ‘prank’ appears to have been the work of comedians from Italian TV show Le Iene.
Last month they met United boss Jose Mourinho outside the Lowry Hotel in Manchester, presenting him with a top that he proceeded to sign before it was revealed that Conte’s name was on the back of the shirt.
After the incident at Cobham the prankster was escorted out of the press conference after a second attempt to hand the shirt over.
Conte and Mourinho were involved in a furious war of words last month that had showed signs of dying down over the last few weeks. Whether this gag escalates tensions again ahead of the Chelsea’s trip to Manchester United on January 25 remains to be seen.
