Following the health status of the Tennis favourite and world number one, Rafael Nadal is most certain to play on the clay court this week. Nadal will be returning to competitive action this week in Monte-Carlo but is a little crestfallen that his anticipated rival and competitor Roger Federer will not be playing in this year’s clay court session.
This is going to be the second year in a row that Federer will miss out on the clay court competition. The Swiss’ announcement certainly caught the 31-year-old star guard as he joked over it in a statement.
On a lighter note, the world number one has insinuated that Roger Federer is deliberately avoiding a match against him on clay.
” He says he will love to play against me again in best-of-five sets on clay. He said that a couple of days ago – and I thought he would play Roland Garros. Then a few days later he says he will not play in one event, so there’s a little bit of controversy with that.” Said a disappointed Nadal.
The 36-year-old swiss’ decision to stay out of the clay season last year obviously paid off as he went on to Wimbledon and bagged the trophy and an extra title.
It is no doubt that the Spaniard will be favourite to win in Monte-Carlo as he eyes winning the event for the 11th time in his Tennis career.
Concerning his health and spontaneity in the game as he’s about to return fully to action, he said: “I feel good,” he said. “I’m practicing well; I am playing with the right intensity I think.”
