As Women around the world marks International Women’s Day today March 8, 2018, an event celebrated annually; a day when women are recognized for their achievements without regards to division, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political.

Women’s day was first observed on Feb 28, 1909 in New York. At 1910 International Women’s day conference, March 8 was suggested to be observed as International Women’s Day.

The day became commonly celebrated by the Socialist Movement and Communist countries until it was adopted by the United Nations.

This Year 2018, the world has risen again to celebrate women who have greatly influenced the world and also remind the world that the fight for true gender equality is not over, the women are preaching support amongst women to believe and encourage each other to speak up for rights and gender equality.

The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is #TimeIsNow.

The idea of Women’s day was conceived to set aside a day to speak out on issues concerning women all over the world ranging from sexual harassment to equal pay, women’s political representation, among others.
