Four times Nigerian League champions, Kano Pillars, defeated visiting Mountain of Fire Ministries, MFM FC, 3-1 in an NPFL week 25 encounter at the Sani Abacha stadium in Kano.
The home side took the lead in the 12th minute after captain, Rabiu Ali, scored from the spot, as Masu Gida went into the break with a 1-0 advantage.
Nine minutes after the break, the Odukoya Boys leveled the score at 1-1, as top scorer, Stephen Odey, grabbed his 15th goal of the season.
However, two goals in the last seven minutes of the encounter, first in the 83rd minute by Amos Gyang, and then, in the 90th minute by Adamu Mohammad sealed the win and three points for the Kano side.
Meanwhile, league leaders, Plateau United, suffered a 2-1 defeat in Umuahia, as Shedrack Asiegbu scored a brace to give Abia Warriors the win, with Hamzat Owolabi getting what turned out a consolation goal for United.
The Peoples’ Elephant, Enyimba, lost to Nasarawa United in Nasarawa, while FC Ifeanyi Ubah were held to a goalless draw at home by visiting Wikki Tourists of Bauchi.
In Ijebu Ode, Sunshine Stars, who were banished to Ijebu Ode from the Akure base, defeated Gombe United 2-1, after goals by Sikiru Alimi in the 32nd minute and Dayo Ojo, in the 54th minute. Gombe pulled a goal back, three minutes after the Owena Waves doubled their lead, to set up a tense finale. But the Stars held on for the win.
Although they lost to Abia Warriors, Plateau United retained their position at the top of the table, on 45 points, five points ahead of El-Kanemi Warriors and MFM FC, who are second and third respectively, on 40 points, with Warriors having a superior goal difference.
