Ministry of Health suspends officials to investigate existing issues in the Scheme

Acting Executive Secretary of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Attahiru Ibrahim has been mandated to follow-up the suspension of some of the top officials by the Ministry.

The top officials were suspended by the Health Minister, Professor Isaac Adewole following the suspension of the Executive Secretary of NHIS, Prof. Usman Yusuf.

From the statement released on Monday by the ministry, the affected officials are as follows:

Vincent Mamdam, the Assistant General Manager, Head Insurance; Safiyanu Attah – Senior Assistant Officer, Marketing; Owen Udo Udoma, Senior Manager, Contribution Management; and Innocent Abbah, Senior Assistant Officer, Planning Research and Monitoring; the General Manager, Zonal Coordinator South South Zone, Olufemi Akingbade; General Manager, Finance, John Okon; the General Manager, Human Resources and Administration; Yusuf Fatika, and the Assistant General Manager, Audit, Shehu Adamu.

The Ministry also disclosed that the officers were suspended because, the Agency wish to have a thorough investigation of all petitions, such as security reports on maladministration and mismanagement by officials of the Agency.

The Health Minister has urged the committee on investigation to be focused, fair and transparent in carrying out their task.

It was also gathered that Yusuf had argued that only the president can suspend him.
