An angry mob has reportedly set ablaze two banks – Sterling and Diamond located in Apapa, Lagos state.
The mob is said to have taken the criminal action, following the alleged killing of a tanker driver by a policeman attached to one of the banks.
According to investigation, the tanker drivers usually parked in front of the banks and effort by the security agent to stop them had proved abortive.
The unidentified policeman was said to have objected to the parking of a tanker in front of the bank, after which a brawl ensued between him and the driver.
On Wednesday, the policeman allegedly shot dead one of the drivers, leading to protests by his colleagues and consequently burning of the banks.
Angered by the incident, the mob, most of which were said to be the drivers’ colleagues, reportedly set the bank on fire and the nearby Sterling Bank building
However, security operatives, including anti-riot policemen and Area B command, have been deployed to the scene of the incident.
