We have norms and traditions that are guiding us in Africa, both in men and women. Women that are supposed to be cautious of this culture do not care anymore. They are expected to be reminded on certain things.

To cover the hair while cooking is no longer practised by our women. The way some women leave their hair while cooking will make you to reject the food served by them

There was a day I joined a friend to visit a family, the woman happens to be almost done with her cooking before we arrived, and she persuaded us to stay back and eat. As soon as she served the food, palatable okra soup which is my favourite, mere looking at her unkempt  hair without her covering it, I declined eating he food in the pretence that am not hungry. I quickly got irritated by seeing the okra soup and eba.

Women also fixing long finger nails, well painted, and be cooking with it, ‘‘I didn’t say it is bad’‘, but make it moderate, you will be wondering how they cut leaves, wash meat or fish, and other preparations. ‘’I must say that they are the house help prepare for me type’’. African women in fact have to wake up to realities and do the needful by being women with decency and dignity.

Women have to look back and emulate how our mothers behaved and are still behaving. There are some women that before entering the kitchen to cook, their hair must be tied and they prepare things used in cooking by themselves, house help can only assist.

There are men that will stop eating immediately they find hair in their food and they might reject their wives food for a long period.

African women, wake up! keep the norms and don’t let our culture die.
