Nigerian Professional Football League, NPFL, top scorer, Stephen Odey, hopes to continue banging in the goals for his league title chasing side, MFM FC.
At the weekend, Odey scored the only goal as MFM defeated visitors, Wikki Tourists of Bauchi 1-0 in a week 29 match played in Lagos.
It was Odey’s seventeenth of the 2016/2017 campaign, which sees him sit atop the scorers’ chart. But the 19 year-old isn’t done just yet, as he hopes to add to those 17 goals.
“I am very happy to have scored today [Sunday] and take my goal tally to 17 goals,” Odey told npfl.ng. “It is 17 now, [and] I hope it will continue to increase.
Odey’s goal gave MFM an important win, which ensured that they closed the gap between them and league leaders, Plateau United to just two points.
Nevertheless, for Odey, the collective comes before personal gains, as the striker says he wants to help his team more than anything else.
“I will continue to work very hard to help my team,” he said. “The fans are expecting so much from us and we don’t want to let them down,” the youngster added.
The Odukoya Boys, who are still within a chance of usurping leaders, United for the league title, are away in week 30 round of matches, as they travel to the Cathedral in Enugu, home of the defending champions, Rangers International Football Club.
MFM have scored 34 goals in 29 NPFL matches this season, with star striker, Stephen Odey, scoring 50% of them.
