The wife of a Pentecostal church pastor, identified as Gladys Mayaka Onyancha has reportedly been arrested for allegedly burning her daughter with hot water in Kenya.
The incident which left residents in shock, especially after the pastor denied any knowledge of it, is said to have occurred at Kyang’ombe area in Kenya.
According to neighbours, the woman was angry after the 8-year-old girl went to play at a nearby estate against her wish. Out of anger, she poured hot water on the girl’s thighs, leaving her with a big scar.
She is said to have burnt her stepdaughter and locked her indoors
Kitengela police officers and members of the public rescued the Class Two pupil at around 8pm on July 10 and arrested the woman. Angry residents accused Onyancha of mistreating the little girl while her father who is a pastor in Kitengela watched helplessly.
“We, as neighbours, are very disappointed in the woman for mistreating the young girl. We are concerned that she has been doing difficult house chores instead of playing with fellow children. We have spoken to the girl’s father who has continually barred us from interfering in his family matters,” said John Muthui, the area community policing officer.
The girl’s father appeared at the police station after his wife was arrested, claiming he was not aware of the incident, even though he found his daughter feeling unwell on the fateful day.
“I did not know that my daughter had a serious burn. I found her sick and had planned to take her to hospital,” he stated.
However, the girl is being treated at a hospital in Kitengela.
