According to CNN, Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe has sacked his Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa for alleged “disloyalty, disrespect, deceitfulness and unreliability.”

The Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services‚ Simon Khaya Moyo, announced the removal of the Vice President from office.

In a Media Conference‚ the Minister said: “The Vice President has consistently and persistently exhibited traits of disloyalty‚ disrespect and unreliability in the execution of his duties.”

To this effect, people have been saying that President Mugabe was trying to make way for his wife, Mrs Grace Mugabe to succeed him, as she would be appointed Vice President at the Conference of the ruling Zanu-PF party by December.

According to Tinashe Jakwa, a Southern Africa analyst at the African Studies Association of Australasia and the Pacific (AFSAAP); “The First Lady is well-positioned to fill the (role) of Vice President and has significant support from the Zanu-PF party machinery.”

Contrary to the views, the Party’s constitution does not currently allow a female to occupy office of the Vice President, unless the constitution is amended. Though, the Provincial Councils have expressed their readiness to do so.

Nevertheless, Mugabe and his Party had also been severally accused of Corruption and abuse of Power.
