One Aminu Nurudeen, A Liberty Television reporter, who had allegedly posted a viral video showing the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, struggling to read a speech at a public event in Kano State, has gone into hiding as he is nowhere to be found by the police.
The video showing the IGP struggling to read his speech at the inauguration of the Police Technical Intelligence Unit in Kano on Monday has since gone viral exposing the IGP to public ridicule.
Reports say the IG was embarrassed by the trending video and ordered an investigation into its release.
From reports gathered, the Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Musa Magaji Majiya, invited the reporter to their office on Thursday, but the he did not heed the call and has gone into hiding.
The IGP has since come out to tell Nigerians that the original video was altered with the intention to cast him in bad light and embarrass the police leadership.
Also in response to a question from a Twitter user via the police twitter handle, Nigerian Police @PoliceNG #Askthepolice the police said the video was doctored.
The responds reads, @PoliceNG #Askthepolice “Yes, it was doctored.”
In a part of the alleged doctored footage, Idris said, “I mean, transmission, I mean effort, that the transmission cooperation to transmission, I mean transmission to have effect, ehm, apprehend, I mean, apprehensive towards the recommendation, recommended formation effective and effect, I mean, apprehensive at the transmission of…and transmission and transmission for the effective in the police command.”
Detectives are allegedly using the police technical platform to track the original source of the video on social media.
