See what Ikon and Ebre festival means in Akwa-ibom State

Maidens at the festival

Traditional festival in Africa varies from state to state and most times even down to communities.

In Akwa-ibom state of Nigeria, the Ikon (Melon) Festival and Ebre (Water Yam Festival) are periods when people go for thanksgiving for a good year’s harvest of melon and water yam. Most times the thanksgiving is accompanied by heavy traditional dance and music. Yearly, the festival attracts the sons and daughters of the soil back home and usually in the company of their friend and well-wishers.
