Alhaji Shehu Bagudu, The chairman of Gwandu Local Government Area of Kebbi State has come out to say that over N9 million meant for April salary in the department of Health and Agriculture has been stolen by suspected armed robbers.
He disclosed that the incident occurred on the 24th of May.
While narrating the event to reporters yesterday in Gwandu, he said the cashier Alhaji Bashir Gwandu had cashed the money from the bank and was taking it home, unknown to him the robbers had been trailing him from the bank, as he was about to open his gate and drive in the hoodlums attacked him snatched his car with the money in it and drove away.
Alhaji Bagudu said the car was later discovered in Tambuwal Local Government of Sokoto State.
The Chairman also went ahead to dismiss the rumour that he was shielding the cashier who is said to be his son in-law.
He stated that the rumour was untrue that his son in-law is known to be trustworthy adding that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is still investigating on the matter.
Bagadu told the reporters that the council had held meetings with the affected workers.
He disclosed that the family of the cashier are making arrangements to pay part of the stolen money before his arraignment in court on 4th June.
Police spokesman Mustapha Suleiman, confirmed the incident, adding that the cashier had been undergoing investigation at the CID since the incident occurred.
