A 16-year-old housewife accused of poisoning her husband to death has been remanded in a children’s remand home by a Kano Chief Magistrates’ court on Tuesday, May 8, 2018.
The defendant faces a one count charge of culpable homicide to which she pleaded not guilty.
Insp. Aluta Mijinyawa, the police prosecutor, told the court that one Ibrahim Yahaya, a neighbor to the defendant reported the matter at the Danbatta Police Division on April 25.

The prosecutor further disclosed that the defendant on April 22, at about 7 p.m, served her supposed husband a meal she had prepared and spiced with rat poison.
He said, “After her husband ate the food he died instantly as a result of food poisoning.”
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Section 221 of the Penal Code.
The Presiding Judge, Hajiya Fatima Adamu, in her ruling, ordered that the defendant be remanded in a children’s remand home as the case was adjourned until June 7, for mention.
