In Jalingo on Tuesday, A student identified as Mercy Victor was reported dead from injuries she sustained after she was ganged raped and stabbed by hoodlums on Sunday night.
Mercy Victor was reported to be a final year student of the College of Nursing and Midwifery, Jalingo.
The incident was confirmed by the President of the National Union of Taraba Students, Hope Vyonku as he narrated that the deceased was returning to school on Sunday night from a weekend trip when she fell into the hands of hoodlums who gang-raped her and thereafter stabbed her.
Vyonku went ahead to condemn the act of the hoodlums and as well call on the security agents to put in place adequate security measures to ensure the safety of students
He said, “I was told that she was returning to the school from town on a tricycle she boarded when the incident happened close to the bridge after the State Specialist Hospital, Jalingo.
“A passerby later discovered her by the road-side and rushed her to the State Specialist Hospital where she died this morning.
“We have declared one week of mourning in honour of Mercy and all victims of hoodlum-related crimes in the state.’’
The Taraba Police Public Relations Officer, David Missal while speaking on the matter to Newsmen said:
“Yes the matter was reported to the Headquarters on Tuesday morning and was referred to the GRA Police Station in Jalingo for investigation.”
