It’s been a tough one for Rafael Nadal is the world number one returned from his injury break, going full swing into action in defense of his Title and Trophy in the Monte Carlo and French Open tournaments.
The world number one recently said (some days ago) he was unsure that he will finish this season as the world number one but his former coach and uncle, Uncle Toni has vehemently disagreed with his nephew on this one.
Uncle Toni believes he (Nadal) has less competitors ranking up to him in skill and technical knowhow in the game. He also thinks that the only arch rival he has that can be threat to him is Switzerland’s Roger Federer and a few others like Germany’s Alexander Zverev, and Novak Djokovic.
‘Nadal can retain the number one ranking at the end of the year,‘ Toni assured in an interview with AS. ‘In Australia, Nadal arrived without hardly playing and performed at a good level until he was injured.
To defend the number one [ranking] in 2018 you have to measure other players who are there like Federer, [Alexander] Zverev and [Novak] Djokovic. [As of] today, I see Rafael holding the number one [ranking].
