Williams Uchemba Gives Joseph; The ‘Plantain Seller’ Scholarship To University Level

Nigerian US based Williams Uchemba has joined the league of celebrities who pick the less previleged from the street and give them a life regardless of their background. Williams who’s currently in the US spotted a 10 years old boy sleeping on the road with a load of plantain by his side on Instagram.

Williams was touched and felt that distance will not prevent him from helping. He demanded to get in touch with the boy, and the following is the rest of the story from Williams:

Williams UchembaSo I had a video chat with Joseph, he is 10 years old and his from Akwa Ibom State. He told me that he is living with a woman that took him from his parents in the village and promised that she will send him to school in Lagos because his parents couldn’t afford to train him, but when he got to Lagos instead of school the lady put him on the street to sell things and bring money back to her.

”I have tried to talk with the lady to have a better understanding of the situation but she doesn’t want to talk instead she said we can take the boy. I have spoken with Joseph and he said he wants to go back home and go to school because his parents who he hasn’t seen or spoken to doesn’t know that he is hawking in Lagos , and yes he hasn’t eaten in 3 days.

”Anyway I want to clean him up today and put him on the flight today to akwa Ibom with some people, know what the parents needs and put him on Scholarship with the help of God. He has a bright future ( I can tell) and if not for anything kids his age are not suppose to be on the street but in school. He is one out of many and I can’t take all off the road alone so I urge you to help the ones you can when you see them around.

From selling plantain and sleeping on the street without eating for three days to boarding flight back to the village via Williams Achumba’s sole sponsorship.

On arrival, William’s team released sum amount of money to the boy’s father, though the amount is undisclosed for now, but it was enough to have triggered warmth appreciation from Joseph’s father.

I believe that the government hasn’t been able to better the situation of Nigeria and Nigerians as promised, but I also believe we can’t just wait for the government to do everything for us and watch our people die, there are certain things we can do for our neighbors, our brothers and sisters that are in need around us especially when you are in the position to. There is no way president Buhari can see the person on your street that needs help but you are seeing him everyday and the little you do for that person can change a lot. So because of safety I didn’t want to give them a lot of cash, we weren’t sure how safe the environment is but I have gotten the details of the family members and we will take the rest up from there.

Ten years old Joseph is now in his home town. But more tragic stories follows, Williams reveals more…

Williams Uchemba – ”Joseph got back home only to see his Mum in the hospital and to hear that he lost his youngest sibling. And to think that the lady that took him to Lagos knows about the situation of this family and still decided to enslave him to make money for herself without sending a dime to the parents nor sending him to school like she promised, is heart breaking.

”I believe that social media platforms should not only be used to show our assets and good life but should also be used as a tool to cause transformation in the society and to impact the life of people in dire need. I don’t like the woman’s condition and the the house they live in so I have to do something about that and I urge you to do same around you..if you can Afford more than one square meal then you are more than comfortable to help the people in need.”
