200 suspected kidnappers, cultists arrested in Rivers


No fewer than 200 suspected kidnappers, cultists and armed robbers were reportedly arrested in Emohua and Ikwerre Local Government Areas of the state by operatives of the Rivers State Police Command.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Zaki Ahmed, disclosed this while parading some of the suspects.

He stated that the operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring team rescued an aged woman, who was abducted and raped by her captors in Rumuodogo forest, Emohua.

He explained that although the state had witnessed an increase in cult activities in recent times, the command had embraced security strategies to curb the menace.

Ahmed, who further noted that those apprehended and paraded at the headquarters of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Rumukpokwu community, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area were smoked out of their various hideouts, also added that 10 armed robbers specialised in dispossessing car owners of their vehicles at gunpoint had also been arrested by operatives of the command.
