Trump will be addressing the nation over the struggle for US-Mexico border wall rebuild. The president will be addressing the nation at 9:00 pm (0200 GMT Wednesday) and a trip to the border Thursday raise the stakes in the row with congressional Democrats refusing to fund his wall project. The struggle to fund the rebuild and it refusal led to the partial government shutdown which US is experiencing now.
Some Democratic leaders responded to President Donald Trump’s planned speech by calling for equal airtime to rebut the president’s “malice and misinformation,” though it is not yet clear how major networks will react to that.
Some unidentified events are giving the president the guts to bypass Congress by invoking emergency powers to order wall construction.
The said powers would allow the president to source alternative fund for the wall rebuild and also free him to open some parts of the government offices that have been shut-down, which is getting to it third week now.
The White House has not said anything about the detail of Trump’s message as yet.
Trump’s tweeted shows that his address from the Oval Office on Tuesday will cover “the Humanitarian and National Security crisis on our Southern Border.”
In respect of the Thursday’s trip, President Trump’s spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said, ”will be to “the frontlines of the national security and humanitarian crisis.” The exact destination was not made public.
“President Trump keeps rejecting the bipartisan House-passed bills, which have already received strong bipartisan support in the Senate, to re-open the government,” said a joint statement by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
“Now that the television networks have decided to air the President’s address, which if his past statements are any indication will be full of malice and misinformation, Democrats must immediately be given equal airtime,” they added.
President Trump has actually made building the US-Mexico border wall the central theme of his nationalist domestic policies. He said the Mexico border is an open gate for criminals, including rapists, terrorists, people with dangerous diseases and phony asylum seekers.
Sanders said on Sunday in an interview on the usually Trump-friendly Fox News channel that “nearly 4,000 known or suspected terrorists come into our country illegally.”
Meanwhile, Democrats who won control of the House of Representatives in midterm legislative election says President Trump is over-blowing the negative impact of the border on the nation, the rather see the wall issue as a political stunt that is actually not worth taxpayer’s hard earned money
