How else do we know a crying nation, if not from painful lamentation of the people of the lower class. Nigerian singer and song writer Simisola Bolatito Ogunleye, popularly known as Simi has writing a message to Nigerian leaders. The message which is geared towards moving the leaders of Nigeria to take proactive action that will better the country and elevate the hope of the poor masses has attracted too many comment from other pained Nigerians on social media.

And the message reads:

Symplysimi – ”Do better. Even if the rest of the world undermines us and treats us badly, WHY CAN’T WE TAKE CARE OF OUR OWN??? What kind of selfishness is this??? Other nations cater for their own, protect their own. Value their own. But we have these self-centered, money-hungry, mind-blind, visionless people that fight for leadership positions only to fill their pockets and make a mockery of all of us.

”The world laughs at us and thinks we’re lesser than them. Grown men fighting in the Senate house. Presidency badmouthing the youth to international media. When it’s not the government, it’s the average man stealing from his brother. Killing his brother. Not fighting for his neighbour. Not edifying his neighbour. Which way????

”Oh ye Leaders of Today, what Legacy are you trying to leave behind????? I’m so mad!!!!! Why are you chasing away the people that have potential to edify this nation to places where they’re not even respected or seen as priority. Why don’t we love ourselves enough. Why???? I’m so upset!!! You have us looking for love in all wrong places. Ugh!

The massage attracted too many comments on social media, but we captured a few for reference purposes. Read on:

Dosudeji -”I think the only reason why our leaders/government decided not to make this country a better place is because they wanted to tame us, given them power to do whatever they want with us, Imagine , If everyone enjoys 24hrs electricity , good road infrastructure and a very good education and everyone has a better job or a good business , who are they going to give 1000 Naira to during election or who are they going to give one kongo of rice?

”Who are they going to use as their thugs ? What are they going to use as their manifestos during campaign ? And so on … now hey are even harassing the youth with police so that the fear can settle deep down inside us and we can respect them more … as much as I love this country I wish it never existed and I deeply blamed my parents for not consulting me first before they decided to conceive me because I would have asked them , hey which country are you from? If nah Naija I no Dey go abeg.

Deedaeholu– My baby been spewing some bitter truth. @symplysimi

Aramide – ”We pay huge amount of money on taxes be it PAYE, accommodation tax, food and drinks, land use charges onto land I saved my hard earned money to buy oo, development tax, VAT, tax on home appliances, toll fees etc to federal, state and local tax authorities.

”All this money goes into govt pocket but no reliable amenities enjoyed by citizens. Electricity bill nko? Na die!. We hardly had 5hrs electricity per day and we get bill of over 30k per month. Sometimes, it’s even black out for days. Inflation on food stuff no? Gobe! Abeg, make I stop here cause as qm writing I deny vex.”

Damisifolawe – I’m so angry with this country!!! Nigeria could be really really great but they’ve turned our politics into an old boys club and the people in power are selfish. We don’t have homeless shelters, no healthcare for the poor, in general hospitals that are meant to be very affordable, it is pay as you go. Our presidents feeding budget a month can feed millions of nigerans for a year!! What is wrong with these People with influence and power? Get your PVCs!!!!!

Obie3ice – ”@symplysimi Thanks for lending a voice. This is what it means to be a celebrity and humanitarian-caring about people, economic standards and speaking against the ill-doings of the government.I had this same discussion with someone today. It hurts me as much as it does you too.

”God Bless you and the few celebrities who have taken the courage to speak out. I hope all others take a cue and do the same . Not every time music/videos promotion, sometimes you use your media to send the right message about this difficult realities to your loyal fans/followers and government. There was a revolution in US,UK,Canada, et al before they became who they are and today our people run there for greener pastures .

”We have all the resources in abundance to develop this country even better than them but we chose to be wicked to ourselves. Our billionaires make their from nowhere else but Nigeria. There is so much money to develop our country, much that our people wouldn’t need to travel out looking for greener pastures but it hurts that we chose to be wicked to ourselves.

”I know for sure that There will be a revolution in this country soon – it has started. I hope others follow suit and do same . I’m an ardent fan,I love your music, you’re a talent. God bless you for this.”

What are we going to do now? Hope to get positive reaction from Nigerian leaders.
