Italian Open: Simona Halep crashes out Japan’s Naomi Osaka

Romanian Simona Halep, WTA number 1 has shown off her skills on Japan’s Naomi Osaka with a strong trounce at the WTA Italian Open in Rome, bringing their match to an end within an hour in a gigantic 6-1, 6-0 win in the second round of the tournament.

Top seed Halep has met with Naomi Osaka five times and has just gotten her 4th victory over the Japanese at the Italico Foro.

The 26-year-old Romanian is on a defense course to keep her WTA number 1 title and must do everything to get to the quarter-finals of the tournament at least to maintain her ranking. Halep is also a major favourite of the Italian Open in Rome and will not want to lose her ranking to Caroline Wozniacki.

Halep was barely challenged in this match as she defended four out of five of her break points in her opening service and even reeled off all of Osaka’s break points in a deserving victory as a payback for their last match where the Japanese ousted Halep in a 6-0, 6-3 victory in the semi-finals at Indian Wells in March.

The 26-year-old will either play Donna Vekic or Madison Keys next to compete for a spot in the Italico Foro quarter-finals.

The Romanian is seriously putting together her way into the French Open with intentions to assert he first Grand Slam after becoming a runner-up twice in Roland Garros.
