NBC On Ground To Penalize Broadcast Stations That Allow Hate Speeches

Speaking at the second National Conference of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) held yesterday in Kano, Minister of Information and Culture Alhaji Lai Mohammed notified the public that the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) who were charged by the Federal Government to penalize any Broadcast station that allows hate speeches on its platform, is still in operation.  

The Minister warned that hate speech over the media is a terrorism act and there is punishment to such, with respect to the 2011 Terrorism Act. He added that the Federal Government has been and will continue promoting ethical standard and the core responsibility of the Journalism profession in Nigeria.

He advised that the media should be used to promote national unity, public values and peaceful co-existence.

“As gatekeeper, the media is expected in high hope to build responsible and lead vibrant societal development devoid of dangerous and hate speeches. The Federal Government will continue to promote and uphold ethical standard,” He said.
Two days ago, Lai Mohammed declared in a statement released by His Special Adviser, Mr. Segun Adeyemi that the Administration of His Boss President Muhammadu Buhari is in competent hands and that the country in safe.
