The Williams sisters have once again clashed since after their last clash at the last year Australian Open (2017) with little sister Serena gaining victory over her big sister Venus. Venus won 6-3, 6-4 against little sister Serena in the third round of the BNP Paribas Open on Monday night and this is her first victory over Serena since 2014.
This is actually Serena’s first Tennis appearance since after the birth of her daughter in September and the match against her sister is the 29th one with Venus losing out in four matches in total.
The significance of her losing her first tournament is that it has crashed her out of the Paribas Open in Indian Wells.
Serena was forced to save three break points to hold her first service game but subsequently lost her third to love as Venus took a 4-2 lead before serving the set.
Venus then dominated the second set too, despite suffering a late break of her own, to seal what was in reality a fairly comfortable and routine win.
The two sisters met on the court for the first time since last year’s Australian Open final, when a pregnant Serena won her 23rd Grand Slam title.
Venus needed an hour-and-a-half and two match points to secure the victory. Serena ended the match with a forehand failing to find the court, one of her 41 unforced errors.
Serena is still ahead on the head-to-head stats, leading 17-12 overall, although Venus evened their WTA Tour clashes at 7-7.
