Woman Faces Lawsuit For Burning Daughter With Hot Iron Over N250 Theft

A Lagos State Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ikeja has remanded one Sheriff Ayo for allegedly burning her 16-year-old daughter with a hot iron contrary to Sections 172 and 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The 30-year-old mother beat and burnt her daughter with a hot iron for allegedly stealing the sum on N250.

The accused who resides at Sobodun Street, Orile-Iganmu, a suburb of Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of assault and assault causing harm to which she pleaded not guilty.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Benson Emuerhi, told the court that the accused committed the offences on April 24 at her residence, he said that the accused after beating up her 16-year-old daughter, burnt her upper and lower limb with a hot pressing iron.

He said, “The accused was, however, arrested by the Police following a tip-off from the Chosen Child Orphanage (the complainant) that they should rescue the victim who was being abused by her mother.

“The accused said she beat and burnt her with hot pressing iron claiming she stole N250.”

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs O. Sule Amzat, in her ruling remanded the accused in Kirikiri Prisons pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The case was adjourned until May 23 for the mention.
